Profile

Sofia Lopes is a recent graduate from the Advanced MSc International Relations and Diplomacy at Leiden University. Her master thesis focused on how Historical Institutionalism can contribute to the field of changes and continuities in Foreign Policy through its application to Portuguese Foreign Policy.

Previously, she graduated from the Bachelor in Political Science and International Relation from Nova University of Lisbon in Portugal. She was a part of the Students’ Council in Political Science and International Relations (NECPRI), where she was responsible for conducting activities in gender and European issues. During her bachelor studies, she spent a semester at the University of Milan as an Erasmus+ student. Before joining T.M.C Asser, she was a Research Assistant at the Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA) at Leiden University. She is co-editor of the collection “International Organizations, Humanitarian Action and Human Rights: Effects of COVID-19”, published by the Journal of International Humanitarian Action.
Throughout her academic path, she has acquired an extensive knowledge in International Relations, International Law, and the European Union, and she is also passionate about Foreign Policy Analysis, Policy Change, and International Institutions. At the Asser Institute, she assists the organisation of events and training programs.
