[Call for Abstracts and Posters] Toogdag 2025: Access to Justice
Published 20 February 2025
We are pleased to announce that the Annual Toogdag is set to take place on 12 June 2025, at Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen. This year’s conference will center around the critical theme of Access to Justice. In addition, a PhD workshop and networking activity will be held on 11 June 2025.
Access to justice (A2J)is a fundamental pillar in the protection of human rights, ensuring that individuals can seek redress for grievances and hold those in power accountable. However, several challenges threaten A2J, including rising legal costs, restrictive legal requirements, and shrinking civic space. Additionally, systemic inequalities—such as discrimination, language barriers, and implicit biases—disproportionately affect marginalized communities. While technological advancements offer new avenues for improving A2J, they also risk deepening the divide for individuals lacking digital access or literacy. The growing influence of populist movements and anti-establishment sentiments further erodes public trust in legal institutions, complicating efforts to uphold justice.
Against this backdrop, the NNHRR invites submissions of papers and posters from academics and practitioners at all career stages. Submissions should be sent via email to machteld.vonk@ru.nl with the subject line 'NNHRR PAPER/POSTER' and contain the following:
-
Paper Presentations: A 300-word abstract in Word format.
-
Poster Presentations: The title of the presentation.
The deadline for submissions is 16 March 2025.
Participants can already register for the Toogdag through this website. PhD members of NNHRR may be eligible for small travel and accommodation grants, with further details available upon registration.
We are excited to receive your abstracts and posters, and are looking forward to seeing you at the conference!
