PhD Training 2018: looking back

On 7 and 8 June 2018, Leiden Law School hosted the Network’s PhD Training. Twenty PhD researchers (mostly in the first and second year of their project) attended the course. Academics from around the Netherlands shared their knowledge and experience with the participants. The event addressed research methods, including doctrinal and critical legal research, empirical and interdisciplinary research and the balance between academic rigor and societal engagement. 

There was also a session on marketing one’s research, which was divided into two parts: conference training and publishing as well as blogging and tweeting. In addition, there was a practical session on time management, health and potential burnouts, together with balancing teaching obligations with research. Further, the Leiden Law Library offered a practical training on reference managers and human rights databases. The PhD members of the Network who participated in this two-day course provided positive feedback with regard to the activities.
