Eight Annual NNHRR Conference
Toogdag 2025
Access to Justice
Wednesday 11 June and Thursday 12 June 2025
Venue: Radboud University
Access to justice (A2J) is essential for the protection of human rights, ensuring that individuals can effectively seek redress for their grievances and hold power to account. Nonetheless, A2J is increasingly at risk due to backlash against (inter)national courts, (rising) costs of legal services, legal fees, standing and victim requirements, shrinking civic space or strategic lawsuits against public participation. Systemic inequality further exacerbates the problem. Marginalised communities often face discrimination or are confronted with language barriers or implicit biases. Technological advancements present a double-edged sword. While innovations have the potential to improve access, they can widen the gap for those without digital literacy or internet access. The rise of populist movements and anti-establishment sentiments further undermines the legitimacy of (inter)national courts and erodes public trust in legal institutions. This could make it (even) more difficult for individuals to seek justice.
Against this backdrop, the NNHRR invites submissions of papers and posters from academics and practitioners at all career stages. Submissions should be sent via email to machteld.vonk@ru.nl with the subject line 'NNHRR PAPER/POSTER' and contain the following:
-
Paper Presentations: A 300-word abstract in Word format.
-
Poster Presentations: The title of the presentation.
The deadline for submissions is 16 March 2025.
Participants can already register for the Toogdag through this website. PhD members of NNHRR may be eligible for small travel and accommodation grants, with further details available upon registration.
We are excited to receive your abstracts and posters, and are looking forward to seeing you at the conference!
