Call for intern: Communications & PR
Do you dream of working in an international environment, together with colleagues from all over the globe who work on developing international and European law? Are you a fabulous (news) writer, or a wizard in social media, InDesign, video editing or creating podcasts? Then we have the place where you can match and develop your skills as our new interns: Communications and PR Intern.
Summary:
As Communications and PR interns in a small but ambitious Communications department, you will assist us with the implementation of communications and social media strategies for a wide variety of events and publications. You will further work closely with your communications colleagues, the researchers and the Events department to ensure that all communications are carried out successfully pre-, post-, and during events. You will have plenty of opportunities to express and develop new ideas. The internship will officially start in early March or mid-March 2026.

What will you do?
These are your main tasks:
• Assist the Communications Department in implementing the communications strategy across various online platforms, as well as internally.
• Contribute to designing and developing communications materials for PR and marketing purposes, including videos, flyers, and brochures.
• Produce written and visual content for our online platforms (website, social media, and newsletters) and assist with web care.
• Help create communications plans and campaigns for our research and training activities.
• Conduct interviews (both written and on camera) with our researchers on their latest work, and with speakers and participants at our regular events.
Who are we looking for?
You must be enrolled in – or recently graduated from – a bachelor's or master's programme in a relevant field (e.g. journalism, communications, marketing, media studies, public relations, international or European law, international relations or European studies). You are fluent in written and spoken English. Dutch is a plus but not mandatory. You possess excellent (news) writing and editing skills. You have real hands-on experience with managing different social media platforms and producing online content. You are a Microsoft Office Master (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) You are a quick learner, confident to work independently, and in an enthusiastic team. You have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and can express your ideas openly and constructively. Experience with InDesign, video editing and/or photography is a serious plus. You possess organisational and time management skills and can work on several projects simultaneously. You are creative and proactive with an eye for detail. You take the initiative to improve and develop the projects you are working on. You have a valid work permit to reside and work in the Netherlands. What we offer:
A hands-on experience with a diverse group of colleagues, based in The Hague. 38 hours per week (negotiable to some extent) for a minimum period of 6 months with a possibility for an extension of 9 months. The opportunity to further your knowledge and network in the field of International and European Law, and in communications. A stipend of €736 gross per month (full-time). A window for growth with the support of your colleagues and supervisors. The opportunity to go on study visits to international tribunals and courts, and to attend some of our educational events. Internships at Asser are in principle for students only. This means that you must be registered as a student at a university or a school and must be eligible to live and work in the Netherlands. Regretfully, the Asser Institute cannot hire students without EU citizenship for internships, unless they already have a Dutch residency and work permit. Recent graduates (master's and bachelor's) may also apply, but only within the first year of graduation, when ‘learning through interning’ may still add to your education. They also require a valid residence permit. The internship is an opportunity to learn in an active and dynamic research environment.
