The International Centre for Counter-Terrorism – The Hague (ICCT) and the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) have both conducted research leading to multiple publications which addressed legal issues surrounding drone strikes and in particular compliance with European human rights obligations. As the involvement of European States in counter-terrorism wars is growing in complexity, these challenges will only become more pressing.

To discuss these issues, ICCT and ECFR will convene an evening seminar on Wednesday 14 December, on the topic of “Drone Strikes and Counter-Terror Wars: Legal Perspectives and Recommendations for European States”. At this event, Anthony Dworkin will discuss a new ECFR report that focusses on European states and military operations against terrorist organisations. Further, ICCT Associate Fellow Jessica Dorsey and Research Fellow Dr Bérénice Boutin will provide insights into a recent ICCT report addressing human rights approaches to the use of armed drones. The presentations will be followed by a Q&A moderated by Dr Christophe Paulussen.
