  • Research strand: Transnational public interests: constituting public interest beyond and below the state

Profile

Salome studies Photography at the Royal Academy of Art (kabk) in The Hague. She worked as a journalist, editor (words and images), research assistant, and project coordinator in the cultural sector. She has experiences with exhibitions and (collective) bookmaking. Before switching to kabk, she studied Camera Arts at Hochschule Luzern in Switzerland.

As a lens-based artist and writer, Salome investigates collective narratives. Her works revolve around the construction of belonging and identity, privileges, power relations, and perspectives for the future.

In her practice, conversations, collaborations and research intertwine. Often, Salome takes archives in their broadest sense as a starting point to create new transmedia narratives. For her, found imageries are visual manifestations of socio-political relationships; she treats them as snippets of perspectives.

Salome’s works take shape in essays, books and exhibitions, and aim to foster constructive dialogues. Therefore, she often incorporates elements that allow the audience to participate. Salome embraces complexity and multiperspectivity in her practice as she feels these qualities are needed to overcome current challenges in our society.
